The Cook standing behind a old termite invested counter waiting for the next soldier to serve. After about an hour the cook is done with handing out rations . The cook then waits till the next squad comes into to dine. As he is waiting he over hears a conversation at a table in the cafeteria. This conversation is between 2 soldiers, one is talking about the war while the other is eating.
Monologue
How’s the food? Well I hope its better than how the war is going. Every day it is the same old stuff. Waking up get crappy food go to the front lines. Come back to a silent drained group of soldiers. This is not what I signed up for. Just today our trench was hit by a small near by explosive. Our trench was just under 18 inches and in poor condition. Our squad scattered into several nearby trenches. At that moment I saw my friend die. While I was in utter shock and speechless my sergeant went ballistic killing everyone in his sight with no hesitation. I don’t know if I could do that. Could you?…Well anyways The life out there is brutal. When or if I get out of the war alive that would be a miracle.
